A Napoleonic sail making needle commemorating the much lamented Admiral Lord Nelson, circa 1810. The steel needle bearing on both sides the period engraved inscription ‘Ld Nelson’s Death & Victory Octr. 21st 1805’. The present needle may be classed among the everyday items that Royal Navy sailors worked in off duty hours as good luck charms and keepsakes that demonstrated the reverence and affection that Nelson inspired under him.
