5th Dragoon Guards - Captain Jee’s Bay Charger, 1880

Oil on canvas. An officer’s charger of the equipped with the full dress shabraque of blue cloth with gold lace, overlaid with a Black Ukranian Lambskin saddle cloth with scarlet scalloped edging, and horse furniture of the 5th Dragoon Guards, in a stable with a horse blanket initialled ‘E. A. J.’ for Captain Edward Alfred Jee, 5th Dragoon Guards, signed and dated  ‘J. Quinton / 1880’ lower right. Canvas size 44.5cm (17.25in) x 6cm (23.75in).

Lieutenant-Colonel E.A. Jee (1847-1915) commanded the 5th Dragoon Guards in the mid 1880s. He was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and was educated at Harrow School. He died at ‘Avondale’, Folkestone, Kent.
