Ex: Sibyl Mackay, wife of Colonel A.S. Mackay, M.C., 1st/7th Gurkha Rifles.

Silver and enamels. Engine turned reverse, the hinged lid applied with guilloche enamels in regimental colours, and applied crossed kukris badge. Maker’s mark of Page, Keen & Page, Birmingham. Hallmarked 1931.

Alexander Sutherland Mackay was educated at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh and was commissioned into the 7th Gurkha Rifles in 1913. He served in Mesopotamia during the Great War, and was awarded the Military Cross and Mentioned in Despatches by Lieutenant General Sir A.A. Barrett.

7th Gurkha Rifles formed in 1907, were retitled in 1959, 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles, and in 1994 became 2nd Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles on the amalgamation of the British Army Gurkha regiments.
