A black basalt bust of Admiral Lord Nelson

Circa 1805

Measurements: Height: 19.5cm (7.75in)

Black basalt bust depicting Nelson bareheaded, with hair en queue, wearing full uniform, sash and decorations. The square flaring plinth with relief pattern of naval cannon, flags and fouled anchor, engraved "Nelson". A similar bust was produced in white stoneware by the Liverpool based Herculaneum factory (1776-1840), who were known to produce pieces in black basalt, but this bust is unmarked.
