Provenance: Ex 9th Gurkha Rifles’ officer

Silver (hallmarked Birmingham 1936) and blue enamel, verso with the Chindit badge of a Chinthe with pagoda in the distance, circa 1945.

The 3/9th Gurkha Rifles and 4/9th Gurkha Rifles took part in Operation Thursday (March 1944) , the second of Orde Wingate’s long range penetration operations behind Japanese lines. 3/9th Gurkha Rifles serving in Brigadier ‘Mad’ Mike Calvert’s 77th Brigade and 4/9th Gurkha Rifles in Brigadier Lentaigne’s 111th Brigade.
