A pair of oils on board depicting French Hussars and Cuirassiers skirmishing with white uniformed Austrian Cuirassiers brings to mind Napoleon’s swift advance to southern Germany during the War of the Third Coalition by which he isolated Karl Mack’s Army at Ulm, took Vienna in November 1805 and defeated the Austro-Russian armies in what was considered his greatest battle, Austerlitz. The war ended with the Treaty of Pressburg and the end of the Holy Roman Empire. In period giltwood early 19th century frames. Image: 10.5cm (4.2in) x 13cm (5.2in)
