Patinated bronze portrait bust of Napoleon I as Caesar, in herm form (ie with shoulders cut off and with straight sides) in imitation of Roman Imperial portraits, wearing a victor's wreath of laurel. The to front inscribed ‘NAPOLEON’.

Loosely based on the original terracotta bust of 1806 by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1823), the present bronze approximately dates to the  Retour des Cendres - the return of Napoleon I’s mortal remains from St Helena to France in 1840.
