Bartolozzi, R.A., scuplt., John Jeffryes, Clapham Road. / Sir Ralph Abercromby, / Knight of the Bath / From the original picture in the possession of the Right Honourable Henry Dundas / to whom this plate is, by permission respectfully Dedicated to his obliged servt. /
John Jeffryes.’ Plate size: 34.5cm (13.5in) x 25cm (9.75in). Contained in period verre églomisé and gilt wood frame.

Hero of the Battle of Alexandria (1801). Sir Ralph Abercromby defeated the French at Alexandria, but was mortally wounded in the action. The capitulation ended the war in against French in Egypt. The French were allowed to follow their erstwhile leader Bonaparte back to France, but their fleet passed into the hands of the British.
