Equestrian Figure of the Duke of Wellington, 20th Century

Bronze equestrian bronze figure of Arthur Duke of Wellington in Field Marshal’s full dress uniform, his bicorne hat in the right hand, astride his favourite charge Copenhagen. Cast using the traditional lost-wax process at the Royal Worcester Foundry, Severn Street, Worcester. No. 8  of 15 cast. Signed and ‘B. Winskill, Royal Worcester’ to the integral bronze base and dated 1978. Mounted on a marble base

Bernard Winskill (d.1980) trained at St Martin’s School of Art, London and the Kennington School of Art and joined Royal Worcester’s design team in 1968. Previous employment in Lord Dudley’s racing operation and success as a horse breeder gave him an insight into a world that he later explored in in his sporting and military art.
