Gold and enamel Companion’s breast badge miniature, with top suspension in gold. Queen Victoria’s head in profile encircled by the motto of the Order ‘Imperatricis auspiciis', (Under the auspices of the Empress). The Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire. was founded by Queen Victoria in 1878, and included members in three classes; Knight Grand Commander (G.C.I.E.), Knight Commander (K.C.I.E.) and Companion (C.I.E.). No appointments were made been after 1947. The order became dormant on the death of the last surviving knight, the Maharaja of Dhrangadhra, in 2010.
