Princess Louise Presentation Stick Pin

Circa 1885

Cased. Rock crystal, gold and enamels. The double ‘L’ monogram conjoined by the coronet of Princess Louise painted set into the reverse of a carved rock crystal intaglio, the whole within a bead decorated border. Maker’s mark to reverse of J.B for John Brogden,’art goldsmith’ of Charing Cross. Contained in a period case by Macgregor of Perth.

Probably a gift of Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll (1848-1939), the sixth child and fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, or, less likely, her niece, Princess Louise Princess Royal and Duchess of Fife (1867-1931), the third child and eldest daughter of King Edward VII, and a younger sister of King George V.
