1871 Pattern Officer’s helmet of German silver, the skull applied with a white metal eight pointed hobnail Garter star, overlaid on a gilt mount in the form of sprays of oak and laurel leaves, centered on the Garter motto, ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Pense’, in gilt over a blue enamel ground, surrounding  the  Cross of St.George in red enamel, the whole complete with regimentally specific gilt ear rosettes, brass chin scales and yak hair plume.
