Silver and enamels. Rectangular cigarette case, the hinged lid enamelled with a masthead and the club burgee, engraved verso ‘R.N.Y.C. 1896’, gilt interior. Maker’s mark of Deakin & Francis.  Hallmarked 1876.

The R.N.Y.C. was established as the Northern Yacht Club in November 1824 and received its Royal charter in 1830. In 1886 the R.N.Y.C. yacht 'Galatea' challenged for the America's Cup.
