Ebonised wood with gilt metal ferrules, the larger applied with silver Pascal lamb and flag between the regimental motto inscribed ‘Pristinae Virtutis Memor’ (Mindful of Former Valour), over the regimental title scroll The Queen’s’. Contained in its original presentation case Hawkes & Co., the tapering ebonised shaft with gilt metal mounts, the pommel with white metal regimental badge in original case with address 14 Piccadilly, London. Length of case: 55.5cm (21.75in).
The Saville Row tailor and military outfitter Gieves & Hawkes formerly occupied premises in Piccadilly from 1793 to 1912. In 1887 the firm changed its name from Galt & Gieves to Hawkes & Co.
