‘Poy’, Percy Hutton Fearon (1874-1948) was born in Shanghai, China, fourth son of Robert Inglis Fearon.  He studied at the Art Student’s League and Chase School of Art in New York, and subsequently under Professor Hubert Herkomer at Bushey, Hertfordshire. His first cartoons were published in the London Judy. He went to Manchester in 1905, and worked as a cartoonist for the Manchester Evening Chronicle, and later for the Sunday Chronicle and Daily Dispatch till 1913. He was cartoonist at the London Evening News, 1913–35 and Daily Mail, 1935–38.
