Georges Weil was born in Vienna in 1938 and arrived in England on the eve of the Second World War. He attended St. Martins in the mid 1950s and pursued a successful career designing jewellery in 1960s Swinging London. His interest in small scale sculpture made from precious metals and admiration for Churchill combined in his popular miniature portraits made to mark the century of Churchill’s birth. The Churchill bust elicited enthusiastic press reviews.
Weil sold his jewellery studio in 1979 to devote more time to sculpture and painting. In 1989 he immigrated to Israel, where he is a prominent artist.
