Watercolour - Taking in the Top Gallants, 1805

Watercolour, pen and ink on paper. A stern view of a Royal Navy sixth rate ship-of-the-line shortening sails and firing a starboard canon, inscribed ‘Taking in  Top Gallant Sails / Signalling for a Pilot / 3’. The paper bearing period homespun conservation in the form of stitched tears at mid upper left and mid right. Contained in a period glazed maple frame.
