30cm (12in) x 22cm (8.6in) x 5.5cm (2.3in)

Carved wood. The 110th Mahratta Light Infantry was raised in 1797 as 2nd Battalion, 5th (Travancore) Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry, and first saw action during the Mysore Wars. During the First World War the regiment was attached to the 6th (Poona) Division in the Mesopotamian Campaign. After a string of earlier successes, the 6th Division was delivered a setback at the Battle of Ctesiphon and forced to withdraw back to Kut. The Siege of Kut began and after a lengthy siege surrendered in April 1916. In 1922 the 110th Mahratta Light Infantry became the 3rd Battalion 5th Mahratta Light Infantry. After Indian Independence it was assigned to the Indian Army.
