Silver. Of rectangular form, with bayonet fastening hinged cap and detachable cup, the body centrally engraved the crowned XHX regimental cypher of the 20th Hussars, with the initials L.H.S.G. for Lieutenant-Colonel L.H.S. Groves, commanding officer of the 14th/20th Hussars,1941-43. Hallmarked 1917. Maker’s mark of A. & J. Zimmerman Ltd.

Colonel Groves (b.1897)  joined the 20th Hussars in France and Flanders in 1918. Following amalgamation with the 14th King's Hussars in 1922, he continued with the regiment to Egypt in 1936 and was mechanised in 1938, whence it moved to India for tank training. Colonel Groves afterwards commanded of the 14th/20th during the Second World War in the Middle East.
