Comprising 1871 Pattern Officer’s helmet of gilt brass, the skull applied with gilt oak leaf rear seam band, foliate front band over rivetted peak, a twelve pointed hobnail star centered on the Garter motto, ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’, in gilt metal over blue enamel surrounding the Prince of Wales' feathers on a red enamel ground, the whole complete with gilt ear rosettes, brass curb chain, plume spike rising from four pointed acanthus leaf mount and fitted with regimentally specific black over red horse hair plume and plume rosette. Full dress tunic of scarlet cloth, regimental specific gold lace, the squared collar and pointed cuffs of the regimental facing colour, yellow, the collars bearing Prince of Wales feathers collar badges introduced in the Prussian fashion circa 1890, the sleeves decorated with round back gold cord lace for form a single Austrian knot denoting the rank of lieutenant. Plaited gold shoulder cords secured by a small button at the top. The tunic piped in facing colour and fastened with eight regimental buttons. Two further buttons at the rear waist and above skirts sized to hang straight when the officer was mounted, and decorated with buttons to each of the points of the scalloped scarlet flaps on each side of the skirt. The flaps also edged with round back gold cord lace. Waist belt and shoulder belt of regimental pattern with Prince of Wales feathers fittings. Shoulder belt pouch with silver flap applied with the universal pattern VR cypher in gilt and the regimentally specific Prince of Wales’s feathers of the 3rd Dragoon Guards and title motto ‘Ich Dien’ (I Serve) under the Queen’s crown also in gilt, the pouch flap bearing the maker’s mark of Bent & Parker, Military Ornament Makers, Northwood Street, Birmingham (fl. 1863-1909) and hallmarked Birmingham 1882.
