Full length presentation portrait of Edward, Prince of Wales (afterwards King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor), the sepia print by Darrant of Torquay shows the Prince in midshipman’s uniform holding a telescope. Signed in ink lower right in the Prince’s hand ‘Edward P’ and further inscribed by him ‘H.M.S. Hindustan 1911’. Framed and glazed.

Hindustan (1903) was an 18-gun twin propeller pre-dreadnought battleship of the King Edward VII class. She was launched in 1903, sold in 1921 and scrapped in 1923. In 1911, the Prince of Wales served three months aboard as a junior midshipman in the Home Fleet. He was appointed midshipman on 22 June 1911 and was promoted Lieutenant, R.N., in March 1913.
