Bullion wire embroidered crown and star rank badges of the Egyptian Army, framed with two other ranks’ star and crescent buttons, and a typescript note: ‘Rank Badges, Kaimakam (Lieut.-Colonel) [sic] by Major J.W. Pearce (W.O. Staff, 1944), one of the last officers to serve in the old pre-War Egyptian Army.’

The crown and single star rank badges are those of a Bimbashi (Lieutenant-Colonel) rather than the crown and two star insignia of the a Kaymakam (Colonel). These Turco-Egyptian designations were used in the Anglo-Egyptian Army from 1922 and survived the 1952 Egyptian Revolution before being abolished in 1958.
