Oil on papier-mâché. Originally produced as the lid of a Stobwasser style painted box, the portrait is based on the oil painting of the Duke by Henry Perronet Briggs that was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1837. The Duke wears the Waterloo Medal (1815), and the Order of the Golden Fleece at his neck as the reward of the Spanish and the Austrian royal families for saving them from Napoleon. Contained in a period ebonised frame.
