Silver. An Edward VII silver double ended table cigarette box, with central handle and hinged compartments to both ends, one engraved with the badge of the Royal Army Medical Corps, being the rod of Aesculapius with a serpent twined round it, head uppermost, within a laurel wreath, the whole between a King’s crown and the corps’ motto ‘In Arduis Fidelis’ (Faithful in Adversity); the other with the Royal Air Force eagle badge and motto ‘Per Ardua Ad Astra’ (Through Adversity to the Stars). Cedar lined interior. Maker’s mark of William Comyns, London. Hallmarked 1906.
