The present image derives from a painting in the Apsley House Collection that shows the duke looking at a bust of Napoleon during a party given by Baroness Burdett-Coutts, which according to ‘Wellington Portrayed’ (2014, Marquess of Douro) was produced by observation rather than sittings. The image was engraved by the Maltese lithographer and painter Paul Gaucci (1807-1875) after Charles Robert Leslie.
