Ronald Niebour (1903-1972), aka NEB, was a Daily Mail political cartoonist, best known for topical, single image pocket cartoons. Born in London, raised in South Wales, he served in the Merchant Navy before teaching handicrafts and becoming a self taught artist. Initially a sports cartoonist for various provincial papers, he joined the Daily Mail in 1938. After the outbreak of the Second World War, he developed his pocket cartoons which offered a silver lining to the often grim the news of the day. At the end of the war one of his cartoons was found in a file in the ruins of Hitler’s Chancellery in Berlin.
