Chain linked oval panels in 9ct gold, applied to one side with the Duke of Wellington’s crest - ‘Out of a ducal coronet, or, a demi-lion rampant, gu., holding a forked pennon, of the last flowing to sinister, one-third per pale from the staff, arg., charged with the Cross of St. George’, in gold and enamels, over the motto scroll, ‘Virtutis Fortuna Comes’ (Fortune favours the Brave) and title scroll ‘West Riding’ also in gold and enamels. The backing panels engraved art deco style with the initials M.M.D.’ Maker’s mark of the Crown Jeweller Garrard & Co., 112 Regent Street, London.
