Silver. Art deco style royal commemorative pin dish. Maker’s mark of Edward Barnard & Sons, and retailers stamp for P.G. Dodd & Sons, Cornhill

Made in advance of the coronation-that-never-was of the King Emperor Edward VIII that was due to take place on 12 May 1937. Following a crisis over the King’s wish to marry Mrs. Warfield Simpson he abdicated the throne in December 1936.
