Silver and enamel. A travelling inkwell of upright rectangular form modelled as a ammunition carrier, the front applied white enamel plaque inscribed 'GOVERNMENT EXPLOSIVE' in red lettering around the W[ar] D[epartment] Broad Arrow mark, the hinged lid opening to reveal a silver mounted glass ink pot, set within a gilt receiver with drilled holes, interior of cover with e detail simulating the hinges, the front with swivel action lock catch and rope twist drop handles to either side. Maker’s mark of James Dudley. Hallmarked London 1896.
