Watercolour on paper study by F.W. Barry from the painting by David Morier in the Royal Collection. Signed and dated 1923. Framed and glazed.
David Morier (1705-1760) was a Swiss military and sporting painter who started working for William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721-65) in 1747. He painted a series of pictures of troops under the Duke’s command. F.W. Barry (active 1887-1945) was an Assistant Librarian at the Royal Library, Windsor. A skilled draughtsman, he reproduced a number of military paintings by Morier and Drahonet in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle by the special permission of George V.
