In 1887 he became a contributor to the \u003ci\u003ePall Mall Gazette\u003c\/i\u003e, transferring his allegiance to the \u003ci\u003eWestminster Gazette\u003c\/i\u003e on its foundation and subsequently acting as assistant editor. \u003c\/span\u003eFrequently grafting his ideas onto subjects taken from \u003ci\u003eAlice’s Adventures in Wonderland\u003c\/i\u003e, and the works of Dickens and Shakespeare, Gould exercised his craft with a kindly satire that from which bitterness and cynicism were notably absent.
