Black leather over wood, with recessed swing handle to the the hinged lid to ensure the box is locked before carrying; the lid embossed with the initials M. S-B. The interior stamped with the maker’s name Asprey, 166 Bond Street, London. The lock stamped Asprey, London. Complete with key and slide lock plate.
Mary, Baroness Basing of Basing Byflete and of Hoddington (1867-1904) married Lt. Col. George Sclater-Booth, 2nd Baron Basing of Basin Byflete in 1889 and was styled as Baroness Basing after the death of her father-in-law in 1894.
