Silver. In the form of a First World War Cooper bomb with wick rising from a fuel reservoir within. Maker’s mark of Asprey and Co., Bond Street, London. Hallmarks for Birmingham 1938. Raised on an ebonised base.
Named for the prolific inventor Thomas Cooper, the British 25lb Cooper high-explosive (HE), fin stabilised, air delivered fragmentation bomb was used for anti-personnel work by the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service from 1916. It will be familiar to Capt. W.E. Johns’ fans as a weapon of choice of Biggles and co.
