Bulletin No.66 - Christmas '24

Welcome to the ASJ Christmas Bulletin and final update of 2024.

With over 150 historical objects and artworks ranging across the board from the mid 18th century to the 1950s newly uploaded on the website, we hope there will be something to tempt in each of the areas of interest we strive to cover.

For collectors of royal items, there is a fine selection of House of Windsor presentation portraits and brooches, and even a dog collar from the Sandringham kennels.

Military art is to the fore with horse paintings from the reigns of George IV (1820-30) and George V (1910-36), the former offering a wealth of uniform detail and the latter a link with the Coldstream Guards and King’s Birthday Parade of 1931.

The Royal Air Force of the Second World War is represented by L.H. Wells’ oil portrait of Air Vice Marshal Harry Broadhurst and a unique silver wartime presentation model of a Handley Page  Halifax bomber given by aircraft manufacturer Sir Frederick Handley Page to the commander of No. 4 Group, Bomber Command.
