Bulletin No. 70 - Court & Camp

Greetings and welcome

The deaccessioning of officers mess collections has provided our website update this time with a number of interesting additions, ranging from a curio Boer War period model camp bed to the ultra impressive Royal Presentation cigar box bearing the White Rose of York and coronet of Heir Apparent. Undoubtedly a special commission from George V as Prince of Wales, we are for once without a back story but on this occasion are happy to let style and quality speak for themselves. For those who enjoy the story behind the object, please take a look at our Seaforth Highlander bronze, that was the gift of a grateful patient to Almina, Countess of Carnarvon during the First World War, and an object that gives credence to the enduring Downton saga.

No.601 (County of London) "Millionaires" Squadron Brooch

The jeweller’s art is well represented this time with a rare No. 601 (County of London) Squadron winged sword brooch dating to the pre-war heyday of Lord Edward Grosvenor’s ‘Millionaires’ Squadron’, joining other new aquisitions to our regimental brooches section. For a dash of ceremonial pomp, our stylishly composed 1919 watercolour of the Life Guards kettledrummer by the 2nd Earl of Ypres, the artistic son of the Field Marshal, is certainly worth consideration. Likewise, period autograph signed portrait photographs of two big beasts of the Second World War are worthy items to round up the highlights of this latest offering.
