Inspired by the tromp l'oeil figures that became the fashionable in 17th and 18th century England and the Netherlands, our officer of appears to be the work of military artist Richard Simkin (1850-1926). This silent sentinel wears the uniform of the Scots Greys at about the time Queen Victoria came to the throne.
