1871 Pattern Officer’s helmet, the gilt metal skull applied with laurel wreath above the peak, and silver twelve pointed hobnail star, centered on the Garter motto, ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Pense’ in gilt metal over blue enamel, encircling the cypher of Edward VII on red guilloche enamel ground, above the regimental title scroll ‘King’s Dragoon Guards’ in white metal, the whole complete with gilt side rosettes, gilt chin scale quilted brown silk headband and half lining, red horse hair plume of regimental pattern on a gilt spike with cruciform base.
