Rectangular form cigarette case with sprung hinged lid with engine-turned ground, framed by a gilded bevelled edge, decorated with pierced tracery interrupted by Tudor rose paterae, applied centrally with a gold crowned GVR cypher of King George V (reigned 1910-1936); push catch; gilt interior engraved ‘Lord Glendyne / Herontye / East Grinstead’ // ‘16th December 1935’. Maker’s mark of George Henry Cowell. Hallmarked London 1920. John Nivison, 2nd Baron Glendyne of Sanquhar (1878-1967) was one of two executors of the estate of George V's sister, Princess Victoria. The case was a token of thanks from the King.
