Large frosted silver stud type links, the outer facing roundel comprising gold disc embossed with the ‘C’ cypher of the Prince of Wales encircled by the Garter motto ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’ (Shame on him who thinks ill of it) in gilt and enamel, surmounted by the Heir Apparent’s coronet. Maker’s mark of SF. Hallmarked Birmingham 1969. Contained in their original blue leather gilt-tooled presentation case.
Group Captain Gerald Pendred (1924-2006) was Station Commander RAF Cranwell when Prince Charles arrived in spring 1971 to embark on a five month flying course. Pendred was educated at Bedford School and Christ’s College, Cambridge. He joined the RAF in 1942 and apparently lost an eye while serving with 197 Squadron (Typhoons) in 1945. He retired in 1973 to run an antique shop in Ancaster, Lincs.
