Black leather over wood with brass key plate, the hinged lid embossed in gilt with the words ‘CHAMBERLAIN’ and EVIIR cypher of Edward VII (reigned 1901-1910) and fitted with inset brass handle. Brass lock by Wright. The internal leading edge further stamped with the maker’s name of Armstrong of Dublin. Complete with working key.
Colonel Sir Gerald Dease was Chamberlain to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland until his death in 1903 and was involved in the organisation of several royal visits to Ireland.
