Silver on oak. Desk clip in the form of an anchor spring mounted on stepped base. Maker’s name of Arthur Salisbury Cox. Retailer’s mark of Dudley & Cox of Southsea to the silver mount. Hall  back of the rectangular base. Hallmarked London 1935.

Dudley & Cox was started by James Dudley, a jeweller and silversmith in Portsmouth, who also became a naval sword cutler during the Napoleonic Wars. The firm continued under successive generations of the Dudley family eventually becoming Dudley & Cox in 1912, and occupying premises at 59 Osborne Road, Southsea. In 1941 the premises were destroyed by enemy action.
