Silver. A George III dining club badge in the form of a miniature griddle, engraved with contemporary initials and the motto ‘Donum Amicitiae et Gloria Solomonis’ (Gift of friendship and Glory of Solomon). Cased.

Dining clubs as meeting places free of political controversy, were popular for many leading statesmen of the 19th and 20th centuries. Invariably such clubs did not have their own premises and met a hotels such as Grillons or the Cecil. Prime ministers Gladstone, Salisbury, Balfour, Asquith, and Baldwin were all members of Grillion’s for example.
