Jade. A Thai Art Deco paper knife with an elongated round-tipped and slightly tapered blade of nephrite jade of ‘spinach green’ hue, bearing a gold plaque embossed with the royal cypher of King Prajadhipok or Rama VII, King of Siam (1893-1941). Minor repair to blade. Contained in a leather fitted case.

King Prajadhipok or Rama VII, King of Siam (1893-1941), was the seventh monarch of the Chakri dynasty and the last king of Siam under the absolute monarchy. He ascended the throne in 1925, introduced reforms in municipal administration and education. He abdicated in 1935, overseeing the country's transition to a constitutional monarchy after the 1932 Siamese Revolution. Following his abdication, Prajadhipok and Queen Rambai Barni settled in England and never returned to Siam.
