Steel and brass. Gold mounted Boer 7mm Mauser bullet inscribed ‘Kimberley / Siege’ embellished with a gold mounted heart shaped stone pendant dated ‘1899 / 1900’ and brooch pin fitting.
The siege of the diamond mining town of Kimberley was invested in October 1899. The town was ill-prepared, but the 1600 defenders improvised an energetic defence against a Boer force ranging in size from 3,000 to 6,500, mostly armed with the Mausers imported by the Boer commandant general Joubert in the months before hostilities began. Kimberley was relieved on 15 February 1900 by General French.
