Silver on ebonised wood with brass mechanism. Miniature silver side drum engraved with battle honours from Plassey to Sevastopol, flanking the Castle and Key (granted to the regiment in recognition of service in the Great Siege of Gibraltar 1779-1783) Sphinx and Marabout battle honour (for service in Egypt in 1801), over the regimental mottoes ‘Primus in Indis’ (First in India) and Montis Insignia Calpe (Badge of the Rock of Gibraltar). The ebonised base applied with a plaque inscribed ’Presented by Capt. D.A. Simmons to the / Officers 2nd Dorset Regt. / on Promotion 1919’. Maker’s mark of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent Street, London.
