9 carat yellow gold brooch modelled as a C-Class coastal defence submarine with spindle shaped hull detailed with bow and aft hydroplanes and with stern rudder propellor housing. Engraved C-32 to the hull. Maker’s mark of FHM for Frank Henry Mannox.
HMS C32 was commissioned in 1909. She was involved in North Sea operations from 1914 to 1916. In 1917 she was one of four C-class submarines sent to the Baltic. She was seriously damaged during an attack on German naval forces In October 1917 and ran aground. She had to be blown up by her crew to prevent capture.
