Monochrome half length photograph, inscribed in the lower mount in the Admiral of the Fleet’s hand 'Mountbatten of Burma / A.F.’ / 25th February 11th March 1969’. Image size: 18.5cm (7.3in) x 15cm (6in). Contained in easel backed, gilt tooled blue leather glazed frame by Jarrolds of Knightsbridge, the arched top stamped with the Garter encircling the cypher ‘M of B’ beneath an Earl’s coronet.
The present portrait was taken during Mountbatten’s tenure as Chief of the Defence Staff 1959-1965 by which he was effectively the professional head of all three armed services.
