Sepia tinted portrait photograph of Queen Alexandra with her grandson Prince Olav, later King Olav V of Norway. Signed and inscribed in ink in the Queen’s hand ‘Little / Olav’ and ‘Alexandra 1909’. Framed and glazed.
Prince Olav, later Olav V of Norway (1903-1991) was the son of Queen Alexandra's daughter, Maud, Queen Consort of Norway and King Haakon VII of Norway. Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) was one of the six children of Christian IX of Denmark - ‘The Father-in-Law of Europe’. Queen Alexandra was thus related to most of Europe's reigning and ex-reigning royal families. Her siblings included King George I of Greece, Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia, Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark, while she married the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) in 1863 and became Queen consort from 1901 to 1910. Queen Alexandra was also an enthusiastic and prolific amateur photographer.
