Overall: 46cm (18.1in) x 40cm (15.7in)
Sepia toned three quarter length photographic portrait of the Duke of Cambridge in civilian dress. Contained in a bespoke easel backed leather frame in stripe colours of the Brigade of Guards by Royal warrant holder Albert Barker, 5 New Bond Street, London.
Prince George, Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904), a grandson of King George III and cousin of Queen Victoria, was an army officer by profession and served as Commander-in-Chief of the Forces from 1856 to 1895. He became Duke of Cambridge in 1850 and field marshal in 1862. Deeply devoted to the old Army, he worked with Queen Victoria to thwart every proposal of reform.
