Silver. The Queen and Prince Philip modelled in the robes of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. Modelled and designed in contemporary style by Garrard’s chief designer Alex George Styles to commemorate the 1972 silver wedding of the Queen (1926-2022) and Prince Philip (1921-2021). Maker’s mark and name of the Crown Jeweller Garrard & Co. Ltd., 112 Regent Street, London W1 to the reverse. Numbered 6 / 25 and signed ‘Des AG Styles’. Hallmarked London 1972. Height of silver figure: 23cm (9in). Raised on a marble plinth applied with a silver plaque engraved with their cyphers and anniversary dates, (1947-1972).

Alex Styles was born in 1922. He studied at the Gravesend School of Art under Reynell Huyshe and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. Styles career began in 1947. His first works were executed by Wakely and Wheeler. After the a meeting with Bertie Pittmann led Styles to becoming a staff designer for the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company. In 1952 joined Garrard & Co. when the two companies merged. Styles had a long career with Garrard, retiring in 1987.
